This week the lower GCSE students will be continuing to look at converting between fractions, decimals and percentages as well as beginning work on ratio and proportion.
Ratio appears in a number of vocational contexts such as cement or paint mixes in construction, mixes of dyes for hairdressing and adapting recipes in catering.
The upper GCSE groups will be looking at index laws and expanding and simplifying expressions.
Both of these skills are used throughout algebra and are needed whenever solving formulas is required for a task such as voltage/ resistance formulas in electrical contexts.
The functional skills groups will be looking at measurements and converting between key units (cm to m, kg to g etc) as well as making estimates of amounts which is needed in vocational contexts to give quotes for prices for work and to ensure that materials are ordered and priced correctly.
