Next week the lower GCSE students will be continuing to look at ratio and proportion and then moving on to expanding and simplifying equations.
The upper GCSE groups will be continuing to look at expanding and simplifying expressions as well as factorising and rearranging equations.
As with last week ratio appears in a number of vocational contexts such as cement or paint mixes in construction, mixes of dyes for hairdressing and adapting recipes in catering. The algebra skills are needed whenever solving formulas is required.
The functional skills groups will be continuing to look at measurements and converting between key units (cm to m, kg to g etc). They will also be looking at time and temperature. Time will be applicable in all vocational areas and temperature will be seen often in catering contexts.
