This week the GCSE groups will be continuing to look at rearranging and solving equations. The upper group will also be looking at straight line graphs and plotting equations in the form y=mx+c.
Plotting equations for straight line graphs is used in calculating scaling costs and in measuring rates of change or acceleration. They are used extensively in marketing to predict trends, economics to compare payment schemes and medicine to calculate dosages.
The functional skills groups will be looking at shape, including 2D and 3D shapes and their properties as well rotation and reflection symmetry. These skills are used extensively in art contexts as well as in engineering and construction.
